Candeina was named by d'Orbigny (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R]. It is extant. Its type is Candeina nitida.

It was assigned to Candeinidae by d'Orbigny (1839); to Candeininae by Cushman (1927); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
