Nerita plutonis was named by Basterot (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene-Early Miocene; Europe, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Nerita (Theliostyla) plutonis by Steninger et al. (1971) and Harzhauser (2004).
