Taxonomy
Tanea was named by Marwick (1931) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 899]. It is extant. Its type is Natica zelandica.

It was assigned to Naticinae by Majima (1989) and Beu et al. (1990); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Naticidae by Darragh (2017).
