Taxonomy
Callocardia astartoides was named by Gardner (1923) [IDSTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain/]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pitaria (Rhabdopitaria) astartoides by Palmer (1927) and Price and Palmer (1928); it was recombined as Rhabdopitaria astartoides by Stenzel et al. (1957).
