Taxonomy
Palaeeudyptes marplesi was named by Brodkorb (1963). Its type specimen is OM C.50.25-47, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Burnside, Burnside Marl, which is in a Kaiatan marine marl in the Burnside Formation of New Zealand.
