Melanopsis impressa was named by Krauss (1852) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Late Miocene; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Melanopsis (Lyrcaea) impressa by Penecke (1896) and Cossmann and Peyrot (1918).
