Taxonomy
Neophrontops vetustus was named by Wetmore (1943). Its type specimen is H. C. 691, a limb element (distal end of humerus), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Thomson Quarry, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial horizon in the Sheep Creek Formation of Nebraska.
