Bartramia was named by Lesson (1831). It is extant.

It was assigned to Tringinae by Wetmore (1956); and to Scolopacidae by Brodkorb (1958), Wetmore (1962), Parmalee (1992), Smith (2011) and Clements et al. (2017).
