Cerithium plicatum was named by Bruguiére (1792) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Early Miocene; Boreal, Paratethys, Mediterranean, Atlantic.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Pirenella plicata by Cossmann and Peyrot (1922); it was recombined as Granulolabium plicatum by Sacco (1895), Harzhauser and Mandic (2001), Harzhauser (2002), Harzhauser (2004), Harzhauser (2007) and Marquet et al. (2008).
