Taxonomy
Turritella cathedralis was named by Brongniart (1856) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Early Miocene; Mediterranean, Iran.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Protoma (Protoma) cathedralis by Schultz (1998); it was recombined as Protoma cathedralis by Sacco (1894), Harzhauser (2002), Harzhauser (2004), Harzhauser et al. (2009) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
