Turritella asperula was named by Brogniart (1823) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Mocene; Europe, Mediterranean, Paskistan, Libya, Indonesia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Haustator asperulus by Sacco (1895); it was recombined as Turritella (Haustator) asperula by Moisecu (1972) and Harzhauser (2004).
