Hypsirophus discurus
Taxonomy
Hypsirophus discurus was named by Cope (1878). Its type specimen is AMNH 5731 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Cope Quarry III, Cope's Nipple, which is in a Tithonian dry floodplain mudstone in the Morrison Formation of Colorado. It is the type species of Hypsirhophus.
It was recombined as Stegosaurus discurus by Nopcsa (1901), Hay (1902), Hay (1930) and Kuhn (1964); it was recombined as Hypsirhophus discurus by Mook (1916); it was considered a nomen dubium by Galton (1990); it was considered a nomen dubium by Galton and Upchurch (2004).
