Oolithes bathonicae was named by Buckman (1859). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Hare-Bushes Quarry, stage 4, which is in a Bathonian open shallow subtidal carbonate in the Bath Oolite Formation of the United Kingdom.
