Turritella strangulata was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Europe, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Haustator strangulatus by Sacco (1895); it was recombined as Turritella (Haustator) strangulata by Venzo (1937); it was recombined as Haustator strangulata by Brunn (1956); it was recombined as Turritella (Peyrotia) strangulata by Harzhauser (2004).
