Turritella desmarestina was named by Basterot (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Early Miocene; Europe, Paratethys, Pakistan, Iran.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Haustator desmarestinus by Sacco (1895); it was recombined as Turritella (Peyrotia) desmarestina by Sieber (1960) and Harzhauser (2004).
