Taxonomy
Tmetonema was named by Longstaff (1912) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp Sepkoski's reference number: 797]. It is the type genus of Tmetoneminae.
It was assigned to Pseudozygopleurinae by Knight et al. (1960); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tmetoneminae by Bouchet et al. (2005).
