Hypsogastropoda was named by Ponder and Lindberg (1997) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7674]. It is extant.

It was reranked as the superorder Hypsogastropoda by Harzhauser (2004) and Bouchet et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Orthogastropoda by Harzhauser (2004); to Gastropoda by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Sorbeoconcha by Beesley (1998) and Harzhauser (2007).
