Trochus cumulans was named by Brongniart (1823) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene-Oligocene; France, Italy, Greece, Iran.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Xenophora cumulans by Azzaroli (1958); it was recombined as Xenophora cummulans by Hörnes (1856) and Harzhauser (2004).
