Cassis mamillaris was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Early Miocene; Europe-Iran, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cassisoma mamillaris by Rovereto (1900); it was recombined as Cassidea mamillaris by Vredenburg (1925); it was recombined as Cassis (Cassis) mamillaris by Accorsi Benini (1971).
