Parargornis messelensis

Taxonomy
Parargornis messelensis was named by Mayr (2003). Its type specimen is HLMD Be 163 + 193, a skeleton (complete, articulated skeleton), and it is a compression preserving soft parts. Its type locality is Grube Messel Pit (Museum Darmstadt Collection), which is in a MP 11 crater lake claystone in the Messel Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Parargornis.
