Buccinum costellatum was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Fusus costellatus by Fuchs (1870); it was recombined as Pseudoneptunea costellata by Harzhauser (2004).
