Pyrula semseyiana was named by Erdös (1900) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Paratethys, Greece.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Galeodes semseyiana by Baldi (1973); it was recombined as Melongena semseyiana by Mikiuz (1999) and Harzhauser and Mandic (2001); it was recombined as Melongena lainei semseyiana by Harzhauser (2004).
