Taxonomy
Anthropodyptes gilli was named by Simpson (1959). Its type specimen is NMV P17167, a set of postcrania (humerus), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Devil's Den, which is in an Aquitanian/Burdigalian marine marl in the Gellibrand Marl Formation of Australia.
