It was reranked as the subfamily Polymastodontinae by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Multituberculata by Cope (1889); to Multituberculata by Flower and Lydekker (1891); to Multituberculata by Lydekker (1894); to Plagiaulacidae by Hay (1902); and to Plagiaulacoidae by Hay (1930).
