Amblypoda was named by Cope (1884). It is extant.

It was reranked as the suborder Amblypoda by Flower and Lydekker (1891) and Gadow (1898); it was reranked as the suborder Amblypodi by Jaekel (1911).

It was assigned to Ungulata by Cope (1889); to Ungulata by Flower and Lydekker (1891) and Gadow (1898); to Monodelphia by Hay (1902); to Ungulata by Gregory (1910); and to Ungulati by Jaekel (1911).
