Adapisoricidae was named by Schlosser (1887).

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Erinaceomorpha by Novacek et al. (1985).

It was assigned to Insectivora by Cope (1889); to Menotyphla by Hay (1930); to Erinaceoidea by Van Valen (1967); to Erinaceomorpha by Lopatin (2006); and to Macroscelidea by Hooker and Russell (2012).
