Taxonomy
Desmodontidae was named by Bonaparte (1845). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Desmodontinae by Kurten and Anderson (1980) and Salles et al. (2006).

It was assigned to Animalivora by Cope (1889); to Phyllostomatidae by Kurten and Anderson (1980); and to Phyllostomidae by Salles et al. (2006).
