Tylospira was named by Harris (1897) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R]. It is extant. Its type is Buccinum scutulatum.

It was assigned to Struthiolariinae by Darragh (1991); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
