Procerithium was named by Cossmann (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad-u K Albi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 109,157,793].

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Procerithiinae by Kase (1984) and Ferrari (2012); and to Procerithiidae by Schulbert and Nützel (2013).
