Taxonomy
Deceptrix banksi was named by Pojeta and Gilbert-Tomlinson (1977). Its type specimen is UT 94494, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Locality 74. Bubs hill, south of Lyell Highway, 19 kilometers east-southeast of Queenstown, which is in a Gisbornian transition zone/lower shoreface limestone in the Gordon Limestone Formation of Australia.
