Pagodatrochus was named by Herbert (1989) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Recent.]. It is extant. Its type is Trochus variabilis. It is the type genus of Pagodatrochidae.

It was assigned to Trochidae by Lozouet (1998); and to Pagodatrochidae by Bandel (2010).
