Taxonomy
Vanikoro was named by Quoy and Gaimard (1832) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith R Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. It is extant. Its type is Sigaretus cancellatus.

It was assigned to Vanikoridae by Ladd (1972), Wilson (1993), Lozouet (1998) and Todd (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
