Cerithium submamillatum was named by Rayneval and Ponzi (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Cerithidium.

It was recombined as Cerithidium submamillatum by Monterosato (1884).
