Albionbaataridae was named by Kielan-Jaworowska and Ensom (1994). Its type is Albionbaatar. It was considered monophyletic by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001).
It was assigned to Plagiaulacoidea by Kielan-Jaworowska and Ensom (1994); and to Plagiaulacida by Kielan-Jaworowska and Hurum (2001) and Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004).
