Nerita grateloupianus was named by Férussac (1823) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; France.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Neritina grateloupianus by Grateloup (1840); it was recombined as Theodoxus grateloupianus by Lozouet et al. (2001).
