Ampullaria compressa was named by Basterot (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; France.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Natica compressa by d'Orbigny (1852); it was recombined as Ampullina (Cernina) compressa by Cossmann and Peyrot (1919); it was recombined as Globularia (Cernina) compressa by Lozouet (1986); it was recombined as Globularia compressa by Lozouet et al. (2001) and Harzhauser (2007).
