Ancillaria lamellata was named by Guppy (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Trinidad and Tobago.]. Its type specimen is USNM 115568, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Ancilla lamellata by Mansfield (1925), Maury (1925) and Weisbord (1962).
