Taxonomy
Petaloconchus alcimus was named by Mansfield (1925) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Trinidad and Tobago.]. Its type specimen is USNM 352674, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 9195, which is in a Miocene marine siliciclastic in Trinidad and Tobago.
It was recombined as Petaloconchus sculpturatus alcimus by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
