Cerithium fallax was named by Grateloup (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cerithium (Hemicerithium) fallax by Vignal (1911); it was recombined as Hemicerithium fallax by Cossmann and Peyrot (1922); it was recombined as Plesiotrochus fallax by Lozouet et al. (2001).
