Taxonomy
Cerithium giganteum was named by Lamarck (1804) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; France.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grignon (Lamarck collection), which is in a Lutetian open shallow subtidal sandstone/sandstone in France.

It was recombined as Campanile gigantea by Harzhauser et al. (2009); it was recombined as Campanile giganteum by Sacco (1895), Eames (1952) and Islamoglu et al. (2011).
