Turritella altilira was named by Conrad (1857) [DISTRIBUTION: Neogene; Caribbean.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Turritella (Bactrospira) altilira by Jung (1971), Perrilliat (1987) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
