Venus woodwardi was named by Guppy (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Jamaica.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Chione woodwardi by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Chione (Chione) woodwardi by Woodring (1925); it was recombined as Chione (Chionopsis) woodwardi by Perrilliat (1992); it was recombined as Chionopsis woodwardi by Hendy et al. (2008).
