Taxonomy
Pleurotoma barretti was named by Guppy (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Pliocene; Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is BMNH 64065, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Turris albida barretti by Weisbord (1929); it was recombined as Pleuroliria (Polystira) barretti by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Polystira barretti by Woodring (1928), Thomas (1972) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
