Conus stenostoma was named by Sowerby (1850). Its type specimen is BMNH 12798, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was corrected as Conus stenostomus by Dall (1903), Maury (1917) and Olsson (1922); it was recombined as Conus (Leptoconus) stenostoma by Woodring (1928); it was recombined as Conasprella stenostoma by Hendricks (2015).
