Delphinula trigonostoma was named by Lamarck (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Trigonostoma scalare by Jung and Petit (1990); it was recombined as Trigonostoma trigonostoma by Blainville (1827), Olsson (1964) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
