Drillia papaya was named by Olsson (1922) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene; Costa Rica.]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rio Cocles, which is in a Pliocene marine siliciclastic in Costa Rica.
It was recombined as Carinodrillia papaya by Woodring (1928).
