Taxonomy
Pleurotoma miranda was named by Guppy (1882) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Early Pliocene; Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is USNM 115584, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pleurotoma (Ancistrosyrinx) miranda by Dall (1903); it was recombined as Ancistrosyrinx miranda by Woodring (1928) and Perrilliat Montoya (1960); it was synonymized subjectively with Cochlespira (Ancistrosyrinx) cedonulli by Woodring (1970); it was recombined as Cochlespira (Ancistrosyrinx) miranda by Hendy et al. (2008).
