Amoria was named by Gray (1855) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Amoriinae by Darragh (1989) and Wilson (1994); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Volutidae by Rosenberg et al. (2006).
