Defrancia gracilis was named by Gabb (1866) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Dominican Republic.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Miraclathurella gracilis by Woodring (1928) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
