Ceratocancris was named by Finlay (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Mi-l]. It was considered unknown by Loeblich and Tappan (1987).

It was assigned to Ceratobulimininae by Loeblich and Tappan (1987); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
